First U.S. bird flu patient shows respiratory symptoms, no signs of human-to-human spread | 2 June 2024 | This week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that one person infected with the bird flu now has acute respiratory symptoms. This is the first case in the U.S. with these types of symptoms but the third human case tied to the H5N1 outbreak. The second case is a dairy farm worker in Michigan and another is a farmworker in Texas. Federal health experts say the latest person with the virus had direct exposure to infected cattle. So far there is still no evidence of human-to-human spread, but the possibility should not be ruled out.
