Federal court blocks Trump administration from sending Venezuelan migrants to Guantanamo Bay | 10 Feb 2025 | A federal court has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from sending three Venezuelan migrants to the U.S. detention facility at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. The decision Sunday by a U.S. District Court judge in New Mexico, where the migrants are being held, is in response to a legal filing by their lawyers that argues, "the mere uncertainty the government has created surrounding the availability of legal process and counsel access [at Guantanamo] is sufficient to authorize the modest injunction." This ruling was based on a lawsuit that was filed on behalf of the migrants by the Center for Constitutional Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico, and Las Americas Immigrant Advisory Center.
