Pensacola area's Gulf Coast solitary bee could be added to endangered species list

Pensacola area's Gulf Coast solitary bee could be added to endangered species list | 27 March 2019 | A national environmental organization is seeking endangered species status for a rare bee that makes its home in the coastal dunes found on parts of Santa Rosa Island and Gulf Islands National Seashore. The Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition with the Secretary of the Department of Interior on Wednesday to list the Gulf Coast solitary bee as endangered. "The only hope to save this remarkable native bee from extinction is for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list it as endangered and designate critical habitat under the Endangered Species Act," the center stated in its filing.
