Fireworks
--by
Michael
Rectenwald
Fireworks
fascism's aesthetic
the context
always moving to new parts
new places on the map
new wars to justify, cement into national identity and glory
the war today
Iraq
tomorrow, who knows, but
fireworks will function to aestheticize the mass murder
how beautiful
war can be
our independence from
everything but
war
signifying our independence from everything
all values, human values of other tribes
other nations
other worlds
other religions
from everything
but war itself ---
these lines stand
apart
like me
I will refuse the spectacle
I refuse the spectacle of a celebration of independence, which is not
independent
I declare my independence from war
I declare my independence from the aesthetics of war
I will not watch
the show
